2011 09 20 board meeting agenda SEPT 2011.doc15th July 2011 – CHS holds its first Board MeetingOver 70 members of the public attended the first Board meeting of Children’s Hearings Scotland on 15th July at Scottish Natural Heritage, Battleby, near Perth. During the meeting the National Convener, Bernadette Monaghan, was appointed as the Chief Executive and Accountable Officer for the new NDPB, and papers were approved to progress the setting up of the new organisation. CHS Board Members announcement.doc7th April 2011 – Craig Spence appointed ChairThe Minister for Children and Early Years today confirmed the appointment of Craig Spence as chair of Children's Hearings Scotland.
Mr Spence has been a member of the Children's Panel for the last six years and chair for three years.
An accounting graduate, he has worked for the last 14 years in property, business, economic and social development, both in Scotland and North America, and has developed a wide range of board and leadership experience.
His appointment will run from 18th April 2011 to 17th April 2014.
25th February 2011 – Bernadette Monaghan Appointed National ConvenerChildren's Minister Adam Ingram today announced that former Children's Panel member Bernadette Monaghan has been appointed as the first National Convener of Children's Hearings Scotland.
Ms Monaghan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from senior management roles within the voluntary sector, including, Sacro and Apex and the Third Sector Skills Partnership, and from her background in law and criminology.
A children's panel member for nine years, she is also a longstanding member of the Advisory Group for the Edinburgh Study of Youth Transitions and Crime, a lay representative of the Joint Standing Committee on Legal Education in Scotland and a member of the Criminal Law Committee of The Law Society of Scotland.
Her appointment will run from 1st April 2011 to 31st March 2016.
6th January 2011 – Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act receives Royal Assent The Act establishes a new NDPB, Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS), with a National Convener and a national Children’s Panel instead of 32 separate local authority panels. It will also establish Area Support Teams to take on the functions currently carried out by Children’s Panel Advisory Committees.
The Act is a culmination of a long process of consultation and review which started in 2004.
