As Minister for Children and Young People, with responsibilities for the Children's Hearings System, I would like to welcome you to the Children's Hearings website.

Scottish Ministers aim to ensure that every child has the best possible start in life. Those children who commit offences or who have welfare and protection needs require particular help and care.

Practice, Recognition and Modernisation Conference, Nov 2012, Aviemore

"The participation of young people during the conference was pivotal and a necessary reminder of what we are all about."

The main aim of the conference was to support panel members and other volunteers in the transition between the existing Children's Hearings system and the new legislation to be introduced by the Children's Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011.

Participants were given the opportunity to think about practice issues and the new children's hearings system at a series of workshops.

PUBLIC SERVICES REFORM (SCOTLAND) ACT 2010: DUTIES TO PUBLISH INFORMATION

Sections 31 and 32 of the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010 ("the Act") impose duties on listed public bodies to publish information on expenditure and certain other matters as soon as is reasonably practicable after the end of each financial year. The intention is to promote openness and transparency across the public sector in Scotland.

Children's Panels and Children's Advisory Committees are both listed in Schedule 8 to the Act, and so are both required, as a minimum, to report for October 2010 - March 2011. Responses - please click on the link below
